Mom’s Eightieth Birthday and Eightieth Birthday Pictures

WE INTERRUPT THIS PROGRAM TO BRING YOU ANOTHER VERY SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT – APRIL 17, 2010 – MY 80TH BIRTHDAY!!!! I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!!!!

Our loving Lord has given Dick and me 80 years of life on this earth, for which we are very thankful. It is 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 17th, a beautiful sunny day! Our dear son, Timothy, just stopped in and presented me with a big sunny smile, hug, kiss, a “Happy Birthday” balloon attached to a beautiful red rose, and also a bag of Lindt’s white chocolate candies – yummy! He invited us to their home at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday. All of us plan to attend the 10:45 A.M. church service at St. Mark’s (there is a special blessing during the service tomorrow – two of the ROC teens are being baptized – thanks be to God). Also this morning, Kevin, Tim and Sue’s son-in-law, called and wished me a “happy birthday” Also, he, Jenny, his wife, and children, Joshua, Jonah, Conner, and Tyler presented me with a “Happy Birthday” balloon attached to a luscious chocolate cake. I am sure that is not the end of birthday greetings from our very thoughtful family and friends.

Computers are wonderful, aren’t they? I said that I was sure that the greetings on Saturday, my birthday, weren’t the end of them. It is April 29th, and I am inserting what happened on Sunday, the 18th, one day after my birthday……….. Well, we went to Sue and Tim’s home at 3:00 P.M. Sunday as they asked, and they said they were going to take us out to dinner somewhere. We went to the Ponderosa in Hartford, Wisconsin, and to the very same room where our families had celebrated Dick’s 76th birthday in 2005! Soon after we arrived, members of our families started trekking in. What a surprise! Tim and Sue are full of surprises! My second 80th birthday was great too. There was so much delicious food, and I received many lovely cards and gifts from everyone; also hugs and kisses. What a blessed day it was! Do I feel like I am 80 years old? No, I don’t – another blessing!

As you read on pages 124-127 of my Memoirs, both Dick’s and my 80th birthdays were celebrated the weekend of September 4, 5, 6, and 7 (Dick’s actual birthday), 2009. Our family did this because some of them could not be here to celebrate on my actual birthday, too; in fact, our granddaughter, Cary, husband, Grant, and children, Ben, Aiden, Mason, and Theron are now living in Anchorage, Alaska. Grant is stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base there.

And what a happy and blessed 80th birthday celebration we had!!!! It was one surprise after another! When I wrote about the celebration, we did not put any pictures of our family into my Memoirs. So now I am asking my beloved husband to insert two pictures which were taken at our celebration into my Memoirs on this day, my actual birthday, which he has consented to do. Our son, Tim, his wife, Sue, and their family gave us an album of fantastic pictures taken by a photographer that weekend. There are many wonderful pictures, but I have asked him to put in a picture of our six children, Debbie, Dick, Tim, Sue, Steph, Steve, and us, which was taken after the St. Mark’s church service, and also a picture of all of our children, spouses, children, and us who were able to be there that weekend. Thank you so very much.
Honey! God bless you, Dick, and each and every one in our dear family! Thank you all for everything from the bottom of our hearts!

(Before we go back to the past, another very important announcement is in order. My dear husband asked me if I am going to remember what I wrote about 2010 happenings when I am still writing about 2008 happenings! I write on little post-its and insert them into my albums, so when I get to them in my Memoirs, I can refer relatives and friends back to the page numbers.)
