JANUARY 27, 2010 – AN ARTICLE, “IT’S MY JOB – BEING A SCHOOL PRINCIPAL”, AND GREAT PICTURE OF CHRIS IN EAGLE RIVER, WISCONSIN, NEWSPAPER

“As principal of the only Christian school in the Eagle River abd Three Lakes area, Chris Mueller enthusiastically views his chosen profession as more than a job, balancing its varied components.
Mueller works with teachers of 4-year-old kindergartners through fifth graders. Every day he makes decisions regarding the management of these teachers and their pupils.
He stated, “Tasks that I’m involved with include direct assistance to teachers, curriculum development, group and professional development, and most importantly, overseeing the spiritual growth of the children”.
He serves as a teacher himself, teaching sixth-through eighth graders in a multi-grade classroom setting.
Mueller also works with the board of Christian education to carry out the school mission, noting that trust and relationship building are the keys to success.
Attending school functions and promoting good public relations are important aspects of a principal’s job. To further that, Mueller provides tours of the school and conducts open houses.
Good communication is important as well. To promote this, he periodically prepares newsletters for the families, the congregation, and the community.
School improvement is another area in which Mueller is involved. Improvements are done in a collaborative approach, with the teachers, students, and their parents, school board members, and members of the church congregation.
Mueller encourages student participation in community events and community service projects, such as a Veterans Day program, caroling in downtown businesses, and picking up trash along Silver Lake Road.
Mueller is now in his third year of serving as principal at Christ Lutheran School. He received his degree at Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn., and has completed his first year in an online master’s program on educational leadership.
“My satisfaction is that I have the privilege and responsibility of caring for children’s spiritual needs and the opportunity to give the students the temporal knowledge they need to know as they live their lives to the glory of their Lord,” he concluded.”

JANUARY 28. 2010 – AN E-MAIL LETTER FROM JENNY

Hi family!

Wanted to let you all know we will be celebrating Josh’s birthday on Sunday, Feb. 7. We actually have a fun-filled day from start to end and you all are welcome to come to any or all of it. Here’s the plan:
10:30am service at St. John’s—Education Sunday, so Josh’s class and Kevin’s Kinderchor will be singing in church.
Lunch at St. John’s for PTL chili lunch (this is a fundraiser so there are set prices for the food).
Open house at the school until 1:30pm—go see Josh’s classroom for next year.
2:30-4:15pm—Josh’s party at Gymtastics.
5:00ish—Supper at my parent’s house—combo Superbowl party/Josh’s birthday party with family
Wow, makes me tired just looking at the plans for that day! Should be lots of fun, though! Please let us know if you will be able to make any of these things so we can plan accordingly.

Love you all,

Jenny

JANUARY 28, 2010 – OBITUARY ABOUT DUANE THOMSEN, ROC VOLUNTEER

Mr. Duane Thomsen, a very dedicated volunteer at the ROC, suddenly went to his heavenly home on January 26, 2010. His obituary and picture appeared in the Watertown Daily Times on January 28. Please refer to Page 157 of Mom’s Memoirs for more information about Mr. Thomsen. He is sorely missed by all.

FEBRUARY 2, 2010 – SUE HAS A BASIL CELL CARCINOMA ON HER INNER RIGHT EYE

Dear family,
Just wanted you to know that I have something else that I brought back from Africa.
I noticed a small crusty mole like thing on my inner right eye a couple of months ago. It would not heal, so I showed it to my family doctor who immediately set me up with a dermatologist at Marshfield clinic. She biopsied it, but just by looking at it she determined that it was a basil cell carcinoma.
But before you freak out with the word cancer, it’s really no big deal. It’s 100% curable with a procedure called MOHS microscopic surgery. I’ll have it removed, and then I’ll go to a plastic surgeon to fix the big hole I’ll have in my head. Yes, Steve, another big hole in my head! Unfortunately, the surgeon said he can’t fix my nose at the same time….dang it! The plastic surgery is necessary coz it’s on my face and very close to my tear ducts which may also have to be repaired.
Because of my young (yes, I said…young!), the dermatologist said it most definitely came from my young years in Africa….a tropical climate….interesting, huh?
Please keep me in your prayers. I’ve never been “put out” before for a surgery, and I’m a bit nervous. I’ll keep you in touch as to when it will be….probably within the next couple of weeks or so. Love you, Sue (Weiland)

FEBRUARY 3, 2010 – AN ANNOUNCEMENT FOR HOLLY AND MATT’S WEDDING DATE

On Wednesday, February 3rd we received an e-mail letter from Holly and Matt announcing the date of their wedding. It says:

“Hello Family,

The reception hall has been booked and the church is available. The date is now confirmed for Friday, August 13, 2010. The wedding itself is at St. Matthew’s in Oconomowoc, and the reception will follow at Windwood Country Club in Watertown. All the other information is to be determined. Thank you for your prayers as Holly and I are planning this special day.

God’s blessings,

Matt and Holly”

FEBRUARY 5, 2010 – JOSHUA POSTON IS 7 YEARS OLD

Well, Dick and I attended everything on Jenny’s list except Gymtastics. We had to have a “breather” before we went to Sue and Tim’s home for the combo Superbowl party/Josh’s birthday party with family. We enjoyed everything! Josh had a huge delicious birthday cake made by his Mom with Lego decorations. It’s hard to believe that he is 7 years old! Jenny, Kevin, Josh’s brothers (Jonah, Conner, Tyler), Kevin’s grandparents (Bob and Dorothy Stowell), Owen Ratkowski (Kevin’s 7 year old cousin), Colleen and Bill Poston (Kevin’s parents), Joanne and Jerry Brandt, Julie, Tom, and Addie, and we were at Josh’s wonderful birthday party. Thank you, Sue, Tim, Jenny, and Kevin!
