FEBRUARY 9, 2010 – AN EXCERPT FROM A LETTER TO ME (IRENE)

“Dear Irene,

I want to thank you for sending to the Times the Christmas Memories article. Our relatives in Watertown save the papers for us, so I recently read it. I also attended all 8 grades at St. Mark’s, and the teachers in the picture were also my teachers. I don’t have the picture, and don’t recall ever seeing it. It was a wonderful surprise to see and save it. We belonged to Trinity. Thanks also for your 2008 article and picture.

Sincerely,

Beverly (Bellin) Minning (N3065 E. Little Green Rd., Markesan, WI. 53946”

FEBRUARY 19, 2010 – SUSIE GETS ANOTHER HORSE

Our daughter, Sue, called us on the way from Boscobel, Wisconsin. She and Jim went to collect Cisco, a 15 year old black horse. Sue was so excited! Of course, we will never forget “Sassy”. We have fond memories of her.

FEBRUARY 23, 2010 – WATERTOWN DAILY TIMES ISSUE

Please refer back to Page 158 of Mom’s Memoirs. The Watertown Daily Times article is titled: “Permit for new ROC site OK’D.”

MARCH – 2010 – ST. MARK’S MESSENGER – “PEBBLES FROM THE ROC”

“Janine Petri, an adult volunteer at THE ROC, wanted to make a slideshow to help remember the old ROC on South Water Street. The show developed where the teens became heavily involved. A link to the slideshow, John 3:16, can be found at our website. www.thewttnroc.com.
Janine comments, “Not only are the teens learning about Jesus; they are witnessing, too. The video (John 3:16) which the teens helped make, has been a favorite and they are sharing it with their friends. One night at Bible/Talk Time we found out that one girl has been having serious discussions with her friends about the meaning behind some of the pictures portrayed and she was able to teach the teens more about our Savior Jesus. When was the last time we had a serious discussion with an unbeliever about Jesus?” Thanks, Janine, for your thoughts.
As we prepare to remodel our building at 213 N. 3rd Street, a Building Remodeling Committee has been appointed which includes: Bill Schmidt (Chairman), Don Bartz (Labor Donations Coordinator), Todd Morris (Wish List/Furnishings Coordinator), Dale Ninmann, and Pastor Mueller. We will keep you informed as the project progresses.
As we look to raise the final $40,000 to pay for the building, your generous and kind gifts (make checks out to THE ROC – marked BUILDING FUND) may be sent to 1411 Wedgewood Drive, Watertown, Wi. 53098.
Thank you so much for your help and support. By the way, adult volunteers are always needed. Stop in and see if it might be for you.

MARCH 6, 2010 – JOSHUA WINS PINE CAR TROPHY

Wow! That is a great spectacular trophy and ribbon which Joshua won at the district pine car race in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Congratulations, Joshua!

MARCH 9, 2010 – AT AUGIE’S CHEF’S TABLE WITH HOLLY AND MATT

Augie, Dick, and I were thrilled that Holly and Matt could join us at “Augie’s Elite Cusine” Chef’s table. We ate “Orchard Brandied Chicken With Herb Roasted Asparagus And Grilled Potato Planks”. Augie cooked it all in front of us and an audience – also for live Channels 98 and 985. After it was all ready, he divided it on four plates and gave a plate of delicious food to each one of us. Sue, Tim, Jenny, Timmy, Holly, and Matt have also been at the Chef’s table with us. Augie’s wife, Kim, gave every person in the audience a dessert-plate-ful of the same kinds of food which he had cooked for us. We enjoy going to the show, and try to be there every Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. We have made many friends there.

MARCH 13, 2010 – THE 21ST ANNUAL PHOENIX CO-ED BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

The basketball tournament was at Luther Prep (formerly Northwestern Prep/College). Chris Mueller, Principal/Teacher of Christ Lutheran School, Eagle River, Wisconsin, and also Coach of the Cardinals, brought his team to participate in the tournament. All those in the family who could make it were there, and we had a great time. It reminded me of the “old days” when I would watch Dick play basketball, not in the same gym, but in the building which now is the music hall.

MARCH 14, 2010 – DEDICATION OF RISEN SAVIOR, MCFARLAND, WISCONSIN

Julie, Tom, and Addie (Pasch) are members of Risen Savior Lutheran Church in McFarland, so Sue and Tim took us in their car to attend the “Dedication of a New Church Building” service. Nathan Fager is the pastor. The church was very crowded. After the service all of us were served a delicious catered meal of chicken, beef, potatoes, vegetables, and all kinds of dessert. Then we went to see where Julie, Tom, and Addie live. They had a very nice apartment which they decorated and furnished beautifully. Tom had to show us his “man’s cave”, a small room with the clock on the wall which we had given him for Christmas. All in all, it was a very enjoyable day.

SEPTEMBER – OCTOBER, 2010 – MOM (IRENE) HAS DOCTORS’ APPOINTMENTS

HERE I GO – SKIPPING AHEAD AGAIN

On September 28th I had an appointment with Dr. John McGuiness, a gynecologist at the Center For Women’s Health in Watertown. I found out that I have a prolapsed bladder, so what they call a “Pessary” took care of my problem. We thank God that I do not have to have surgery. On October 1st I had an appointment with Dr. Stan Markus, a surgeon. February 1st of 2001, I had to have my right kidney removed (a spot of cancer on it) and what I thought was a hernia on my right side he said is a muscle weakness. He set up an appointment for me to have a CAT scan on October 7th and an endoscopic procedure on October 19th. The tests showed that I have a “thickening of the lining of the esophagus and stomach” which at first he thought was “thrush”, but it is “acid reflux” in the esophagus. He put me on an antibiotic called “ameprazole”. We have talked to a number of people who also have acid reflux.

We thank our almighty God that again I do not have to have surgery, and that there isn’t any cancer. God has protected us through all of our 80+ years, and He continues to protect us. What God ordains is always good!!!!

OCTOBER 27, 1010 – CELEBRATING DEBBIE’S 56TH BIRTHDAY

I want to write and tell you about how Debbie came driving from her home in Colgate, Wisconsin, to our home in Watertown, Wisconsin, on her 56th birthday. On that day there was what the weather channel called a “wind storm”. The wind was blowing at 60 miles an hour. She brought with her little Aubrey, Jamie and Mark’s (Debbie and Glen’s son) baby, who will be one year old on December 1. 2010. Aubrey is such a little cutie. We still have my husband, Dick’s 80+ year old wooden highchair (which his mother gave us), took it out of a corner in the lounge, dusted it off, and put it next to the kitchen table for Aubrey to sit in. We went to Culver’s to eat, and after that went to our home, sat down at the table, and I brought out a beautiful Black Forest Chocolate cake with two lit numbers 5 and 6 candles, and sang “Happy Birthday” to Debbie. Tim, Debbie’s brother, joined us before he went to the ROC, so he sang to Debbie too. She was absolutely thrilled! Then we brought out a gift of an avocado tree (which I had grown from a seed), which she was thrilled about, too.

Aubrey, of course, was curious about her surroundings, and especially was enthralled about two statues of cocker spaniels and also one of a Siamese cat. How blessed we are to have her, Jenny and Kevin’s baby, Tyler, and Adalynn, Julie and Tom’s baby, all about the same age. They are the youngest of our 23 great-grandchildren – not really – because the 23rd is to be born in April of 2011, Megan and Timmy’s baby. Thank you, Debbie and Aubrey, for coming on such a windy day, to celebrate your 56th birthday, Debbie.
